Depending on the active ingredient and its properties, a sunscreen can be chemical or physical sunscreen type.
Now, here it gets interesting. If your sunscreen has zinc oxide or titanium dioxide as the active ingredient, it is a physical sunscreen. Also known as mineral sunscreens, this sunscreen acts as a shield, preventing UV radiation from penetrating the skin, and leaving a white cast.
Chemical Sunscreen uses organic compounds like Avobenzone, Octinoxate, Oxybenzone, Octocrylene, Homosalate or Octisalate. Its working phenomenon is phenomenal! Chemical sunscreen is generally lightweight and gets absorbed in the skin without any white cast. It absorbs UV rays, converts them into heat and then releases it.
